Water Meters

Water meters measure the volume of water flowing through a pipeline system. They are a useful tool for keeping track of how much water is being used and they are suited to a range of settings, from domestic to industrial applications.

If you are searching for suitable fluid controls for your project, you will find the water meters you need here at RS. We stock several types, including electronic and multi-jet water meters, ensuring there is one to suit your needs.

Read on to find out more about water meters and how they’re used.

What are water meters?

One way to add fluid control is to introduce a water meter. They usually feature an impeller, a rotator that increases the pressure and flow of the water. As water flows through them, these meters measure the cumulative volume of water that passes through.

This measurement is in cubic meters, and some electronic water meters can also display the rate of flow as well as the total volume. Some water meters can also measure the speed of the water flow, the water’s pH balance, its quality, and how well it conducts electricity.

The way the meters are read depends on the type of meter. Some are read by people, others by machines. Many water meters have a clock-like face that displays the measurement. Some meters feature digital readings, while others send electronic communications to a nearby computer. There are also pulsed water meters for remote reading.

What are water meters used for?

Water meters have several applications and can be found in a range of industries and settings. Many meters are used to calculate monthly bills. These are domestic meters used in homes and commercial water meters used by businesses.

Some meters are used for improving water quality. There are also water meters that are used in industrial settings to check that the right amount of liquid is flowing to a system, product, or process. For instance, in the food and beverage industry, water meters are used to work out how much water to add to flavoring agents or chemicals, or to canned vegetables and soups.

If, for example, you are searching for a water flow meter, it may be because you are a building owner who is trying to detect a leak. Or it may be that you work in manufacturing and need to measure fluids used.

What are the different types of water meters?

As there are different reasons to use a water meter, there are different types available. These different models are designed to meet the specific needs of the job at hand. This is an overview of some of the types of water meters you will find at RS:

  • Multi-jet water meters
  • These are common residential and commercial water meters. They feature several ports surrounding a chamber, creating multiple jets of water. This water hits an impeller, and the rotation speed of the impeller depends on the velocity of the flow of water.

  • Pulsed output meters
  • These meters include a pulse output that can be connected to a data collection device that remotely takes readings.

Why choose RS for your water meters?
